Citroens in NZ

In April 2007 we went to New Zealand to move some of our cars, which we put into storage in 2001. We have lost that storage, so needed to move them to new storage. These are some pictures we and others took whilst there.

1961 ID19 Safari, French assembled but RHD. Bought by me in 1987 and used for several years. latterly used as a van and has suffered as a result. Also very rusty now, due in a large part to poor storage in the 1990's. Awaiting restoration. NOT FOR SALE! Could do with a good chassis if anyone has one going spare!

1975 GS1220 Club. Unrestored runner needing a little TLC for regular use. NOT FOR SALE!

1955 Slough Built Big 15, 1961 French assembled RHD ID19 Safari, 1975 GS1220 Club. Ready to move to new storage.

Back of Safari lifted to block up suspension. This was done by removing the spheres, inserting sections of wooden broom handle into the cylinders and then refitting the spheres.

1955 Slough built Big Fifteen. Unrestored runner in regular use before going into storage in 2001.

1975 GS1220. What a great colour for a GS! Yes, I know it's got the wrong grille fitted, the correct one is in the boot.

I had a 1966 ID19 engine and gearbox which I sat in place under the bonnet of this 1961 car for transportation.

The other spare engines and gearboxes went into the back, which made a fairly heavy load and compressed the wood in the rear suspension cylinders! (see next photo)

I didn't want to do this, but it was going to be the easiest way to move the heavy bits with minimal fuss.

As long as the suspension / chassis holds out......

I got this 1961 Safari for parts to rebuild the other one. The chassis is better, but still very poor. At least it is an un-molested example, as it's much easier to repair original rust than rust that someone has attempted to patch before. I've loaded it with the lighter parts for transportation to the new storage shed.

connecting tow rope

Connecting the tow rope so the car can be hauled up the steep driveway to the truck at the road.

Safari being towed up the driveway with the tractor and will be lowered down the other side with the Jeep from behind.

orange safari going up

The other safari gets the same treatment

Wet weather on moving day, shame the new shed was delayed and we couldn't be there when the cars could be moved. The GS was the first car loaded. Thanks to Victor, Neil, Christof and family, Morris and Brian Roberts Towing.

B15 going onto truck

Big 15 being loaded next.

gs and B15 loaded

The GS and Big 15 now loaded for the hour and a half (on a good day) journey South. The other cars had to wait for the truck to return and do a second trip.

new shed

The new storage shed. Still unfinished some months after it was due to be completed. I cannot reccommend Spantech Buildings if you need a shed in the Auckland region.

My Cousin, David and his Family in their early Slough built ID19, which they use regularly.

Just doing my part to encourage tourism to NZ: Here is a nice Kiwi sunset, taken from the car as we were driving between Tikitiki and Tokomaru Bay, near East Cape, North Island, NZ.

And here's another one. This is the beach at Mount Maunganui, in the Bay Of Plenty, North Island, NZ.
